Hi y'all, I'm back!
Today I'm going to write about our new task, a task that is aimed to raise language awareness and encourage data-driven learning.
Let's start with the definition of corpus. Put it simply, it is a super helpful linguistic database. On various websites (e.g. Skell) you can search any word and see how it is correctly used tons of different examples. So, it is an amazing learning tool and a life-saver for language learners.
So, my dear friend Esma (her blog is amazing by the way, click on this to check it out) and I created a task that teaches the basics of the use of "many & much"
First, we started by a little brain-storming session to make the students realize that not every noun is countable. They will decide for each example with their desk-mate, which will warm up the class environment and also act as a speaking activity.
Then, the students will examine the two corpora to spot the difference between them. Based on their findings, they will fill in the rule box. (Since this is an activity that they will do it step by step in the guidance of the teacher, they will see if their answer is correct afterwards.)
After discovering the rule, the students will do the activity that requires the application of the rule and basic vocabulary usage.
We also tried to make them look aesthetically pleasing with the help of Canva. I recommended it before but it is an amazing tool so there's no harm in repeating 😊
That is all for now.
Take care!
